Updated VMware Horizon View Visio Shapes Stencil

It's been about 9 months since I published my own set of Visio shapes for VMware vSphere and Horizon View.  The VMware Visio stencils have been quite popular, with the pages that host them seeing more than 37,000 page views since I first published them.  I've since updated both stencils with new shapes and diagrams as I've worked on different projects at Clearpath.  Most of the changes are in the Horizon View Visio Stencil, with new shapes and diagrams.  I included some hand-drawn shapes for Horizon View for some fun whiteboard like diagrams that I'll be using in some posts very soon - the … [Read more...]

Obligitory Vote for vBloggers Post – MadLibs Style

It's that time of year again, where virtualization bloggers everywhere are courting your vote in the vSphere-Land 2013 Top VMware and Virtualization Blogs poll.  The voting asks the virtualization community to select the blogs/bloggers that they feel are the most influential, helpful and otherwise awesome based on longevity, quality, length of post and frequency.  While I could tell you about how I strive to make each of my posts of the highest quality, great in length (I've even had complaints of being too long-winded), filled with original content aimed at educating my reader (and having a … [Read more...]

Learn VMware ThinApp with New ThinApp Essentials Book

ThinApp is an essential piece of VMware's end user computing portfolio as it acts as the decoupling agent between legacy Windows applications and the underlying operating system.  Leveraging ThinApp allows administrators to overcome application compatibility issues while providing new application deployment options to both physical desktops as well as VMware View desktops.  ThinApp does this by virtualizing everything that makes a Windows app a Windows app - registry entries, DLL registrations, Program Files directories, and user personalization - into a single .exe or .msi file.  The ThinApp … [Read more...]

Announcing EMC Elect

EMC announced today a new community recognition program called EMC Elect.  Much like the VMware vExpert program or the Microsoft MVP program, EMC Elect provides individuals recognition for their contributions to the EMC community.  Programs like this are incredibly beneficial - for the honoree as well as for the sponsoring company and the wider technology community.  I've certainly benefited from being selected as a VMware vExpert, and I hope that VMware has benefited from my feedback as a result of my participation in the vExpert program.  More importantly, the positive feedback from the … [Read more...]

VMware Press Review Team

I follow VMware Press on Facebook.  Their status update post this morning caught my attention.  VMware Press is starting the 'VMware Press Product Review Team' - a group of qualified book reviewers who will read and publish reviews of VMware Press titles (blogs, Amazon, BN.com).  Reviewers will be given up to three free eBooks from VMware Press in exchange for an honest review of the book.  The first book for review will be the forthcoming VMware View 5: Building a Successful Virtual Desktop by Paul O'Doherty. While there has been some noise lately around the number of paid reviews on sites … [Read more...]

What You Didn’t Know You Needed To Know Before Implementing VMware View

I had the privilege of presenting at the Potomac Regional VMware User Group (VMUG) conference yesterday and at the inaugural Boston VMUG last week.  The Potomac Regional event was a combination of Washington DC, Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Federal VMUG’s.  Clearpath participated in both the Potomac and Boston events as a gold sponsor.  My session was entitled, “What You Didn’t Know You Needed To Know Before Implementing VMware View”. My session provided attendees with an overview of how VMware View integrates with existing infrastructures, Windows images, applications, and processes.  … [Read more...]
