VMworld 2013 – Day 2 Recap

By Jason Shiplett Tuesday's general session was focused on giving a little more of a deep-dive on a few big items – VMware NSX, VMware vCloud Automation Center (vCAC, pronounced vee-cake), VMware VSAN, and VMware vCloud Hybrid Service. Since we covered the high points on these yesterday, I'll spare you the repetition. Here is what I thought were the highlights of the keynote: Self-service deployment of Horizon View virtual desktops via the vCAC interface - The demo was a little light on details, but depending on how deep the integration goes, this is a very exciting proposition. Going Nostradamus Style on VMworld 2013

It's hard to believe that VMworld 2013 is upon us.  Before last year's show I wrote a couple posts on my predictions for VMworld 2012 (here and here).  A good number of my predictions were correct on new products, services, and overall direction for VMware.  Emboldened by my future telling success, I thought I would try to do the same this year.  So without further ado, here's what I see coming at VMworld 2013, based on the VMworld 2013 Content Catalog, earlier announcements, rumors, social media hints, and pure conjecture. A Narrowed Focus First prediction: we'll see a narrowing of focus … [Read more...]

VMworld Europe News and Announcements

vCloud Suite Upgrade Notes

I live blogged at VMworld about VMware giving a free upgrade (technically a $1 upgrade, but what's a buck amongst friends) to the newly announced VMware vCloud Stuite Standard Edition for all current customers with VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus under active Support and Subscription (SnS).  This gives customers the basic building blocks for starting to shift their virtualized datacenters towards a software-defined datacenter with all the cloud automation needed to drive the next stage of datacenter efficiency, mobility, and consumption-based provisioning. VMware vCloud Suite is a … [Read more...]

Hyper-V World – What would Tad say now?

We've had some pretty exciting announcements over the past two days at VMworld.  VMware is really flexing their muscle, proving that they are dead serious about going beyond simple server virtualization.  We're plowing full speed ahead, delivering on the vision for cloud and now the Software Defined Datacenter that VMware has been painting over the past several years.car Microsoft was apparently threatened by this vision at VMworld last year, and tried to paint VMware as a virtualization-only offering with their VM-Limited campaign … [Read more...]
