Today is 0-day for VMware’s annual VMworld conference, held this year in San Francisco. While the conference goes into full swing tomorrow, today was filled with plenty of activities. VMworld is a big deal for our virtualization team – we get some awesome opportunities to learn about new VMware products and initiatives in the general sessions, sharpen our skills through focused break-out sessions and hands-on-labs, and network with our peers in the industry.
The Hands-on-Labs opened today with a new twist from previous years. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is now an option for lab participants, enabled by VMware View. Lab participants are welcomed to bring their own device – PC laptop, MacBook, iPad, Android tablet – and securely access the lab environment from their personal device. This is no small feat as the lab environment is usually a multi-VM, multi-app setup with some complex networking, storage, and compute stacks.
Today also gave our team a chance to meet face-to-face with many of the technology pro’s that we often only interact with on Twitter (follow us @ClearpathSG), forums, and other online communities. The personal interaction within the virtualization community contributes a ton to our knowledge and satisfaction in working on VMware initiatives with our customers.
But VMworld can’t be too serious (at least not on Day 0), so the Clearpath team played in EMC’s v0dgeball (dodgeball) tournament raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit dedicated to honoring and empowering our military veterans wounded in action. While we didn’t win, we had a blast playing and are honored to contribute to a great cause. The tournament raised almost $13,000, pretty awesome!
Tomorrow is Day 1 at VMworld – there will be a bunch of new product announcements during the general session keynote and in the break-out sessions afterwards. Stay tuned to our blog (https://blog.clearpathsg.com), as well as to our vExpert’s blogs (Jason Shiplett @ https://blog.shiplett.org/ and Josh Townsend @ https://vmtoday.com) for news from the show. Also, tune into VMware Now (https://info.vmware.com/forms/18162_VMwareNow_REG?src=WWW_VMwareNow_US_HPHero2_PreReg) Monday at 11:40am Eastern/8:40am Pacific if you are not at VMworld to hear the exciting announcements on new VMware products and vision for the future.
